About My Work

I was aboutI was thirty years old when I left photography, where I had a promising career, to devote myself to drawing and painting. I was searching for the purest and most direct means of expression possible, and I found it first in drawing and then in painting. That was fifty-one years ago. Since then, drawing and painting have become deeply ingrained in every aspect of my life. I had great teachers at the Rhode Island School of Design and a great friend in Herman Cherry, one of the first-generation New York abstract painters. He introduced me to Willem de Kooning and many other prominent painters who influenced me profoundly. I remain grateful for those encounters and for their inspiration, for their belief in painting. For me, drawing and painting are my ways of experiencing the world and giving back to the world what I know and what I have always felt.
